The Reds were impressive in their first league win since Brendan Rogers took over management, with Luis Suarez netting a hat-trick in a feast of football goals at Carrow Road.

In doing so he became the second Premier League player to score two hat-tricks in two seasons at the same ground. The Uruguayan striker was on top form and the Norwich defense were simply unable to handle him. One of his goals came after he missed an easy attempt, only for the Norwich centre back to lose possession on the edge of the box, allowing Suarez to stick the ball in the back of the net – silencing the jeering Norwich fans who had been goading him for his miss seconds earlier.

Steve Morison managed to score for the home side, but by the time Norwich got on the board the score was 4-0 and the result a foregone conclusion. Grant Holt finished the scoring for the Canaries to open his goalscoring account. Although this was a great performance Steven Gerrard has gone on record saying that it will take a miracle for Liverpool to win the Premier League before he retires from football, which gives an indication of their hopes this season.

Elsewhere Manchester United were stunned by a brilliant Spurs display at Old Trafford. AVB gave Spurs their third win on the bounce and, more importantly, their first win at Old Trafford in 23 years. United didn’t make it easy though with Kagawa and Nani scoring just before the hour, but Kagawa’s goal was cancelled out by a Clint Dempsey strike which gave Spurs the 3-2 result they needed to beat United at home.

League leaders Chelsea subjected Arsenal to their first defeat of the campaign, with Torres scoring a skillful hooked goal and Mata scoring from a free-kick – both goals clearly moves that had been practised with football training equipment – to give Chelsea their two goals.

Arsenal pulled the score back to 1-1 before half time but Mata netted his goal less than ten minutes after half time and after that had to absorb a lot of pressure from a strong Arsenal attack. John Terry started and played well in the defensive vanguard despite the punishment given to him by the FA in his hearing last week.

The win means Chelsea are four points clear of Manchester United and Manchester City, but only three away from Everton who sit second.

The Toffees continued their excellent start to the season and it’s clear they intend to put themselves in a position where they can win football trophies. Although never really considered title contenders, their convincing comeback after going 1-0 down to Southampton to win 3-1 shows the quality of their squad.

This Premier League trophy could be coming back down South at this rate, with Chelsea’s sights firmly set on the title.
