Tottenham Hotspur have today sold the long-suffering Luka Modric to Spanish superstar team Real Madrid.
The midfielder has long wanted to leave the London club but when Harry Redknapp was boss he was never allowed to go as he was too crucial to the Spurs team.
But it seems now that Andre Villas Boas is at the helm, he doesn’t have as much use for Modric as Redknapp did.
Modric has said that he is very happy, honoured and excited to be playing for such a massive club, and he will have to pull his football socks up as high as they will go to be able to maintain a first team football kit and the Spanish champions.
Real Madrid are one of the greatest football teams in the world, with a plethora of football trophies to their name. Most of the current squad have football medals to boast and they are as widely known as Manchester United, so Modric will have a very promising career there if he can maintain form.
Spurs have benefited greatly from this £30m transfer, having also entered into a partnership with the Spanish dynamos which will see them share coaching, players and commercial relationships.
This could be a double edged sword for Tottenham though. Although it could mean that we could see a variety of exciting and upcoming Spanish stars in Spurs football kits, it could also mean that the London club may be forced to give up many of their own key players, possibly sacrificing their strong position in the Premier League.
If the worst comes to the worst it could even mean Spurs turn into a feeder club for Real Madrid, causing their needs to become less important than the requirements of Spurs, which will not please the fans at White Hart Lane.
