Merle Inez is a footballer for Queens Park Rangers and has been at the club for over 5 seasons. We were introduced to Merle and her footballing talents when she appeared at the Last Stand event at Villa Park in November 2021. This led to us giving Merle the opportunity to create something truly special, a shirt that represents HER. We believe in women’s football and Merle’s story so we wanted her to create a shirt that will truly inspire other female footballers to continue their journey in the beautiful game.
Our Inspiration
Merle provided us with plenty of inspiration for her shirt design. Merle felt it to be important to represent her community through the design and in doing so we took inspiration from the architecture of Peckham and the inclusion of her postcode to bring her passion for her community through. As well as this Merle shared with us her love for the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. With this, we took inspiration from his iconic pieces and used his style within the shirt. We also took inspiration from Merle’s modelling work with SportsDirect to bring through her personality and experiences within the shirt. Merle also wanted to use the colour scheme of the 21/22 Barcelona Away kit, we used a gradient to achieve this colour throughout the shirt and complete Merle’s dream design.

We think it’s fair to say Merle LOVED her custom shirt. We’re so proud to be able to showcase not only our state of the art technology but also our creativity by pushing the boundaries of what a custom football shirt should look like.
