As the transfer window draws to a close the next couple of weeks will show to managers whether they have made a good decision or whether more work needs to be done.

It will be a crucial part of the season in terms of strengthening parts of the team, and it could even decide who wins football trophies, football medals and any other accolades available at the end of the season.

Scouts and managers alike will have tried to make the best decision possible, watching closely as the players don their football bibs on the training ground and studied them while they use the football training equipment.

But as always, there are times when transfers just don’t work out as well as the manager hoped, and times where the low-key signing becomes a star.

One such signing is Swansea’s Michu, who was signed from Rayo Vallencia for the bargain price of £2m. Michu is one of the league’s top scorers after the first couple of encounters with three football goals to his name. He is a signing that has been a golden string for Michael Laudrup’s bow at the Swans, helping them get off to a fantastic double win in their second Premier League season.

The Wolves team that was relegated from the Premier League last year has been thoroughly scavenged by the Premier League clubs. Winger Michael Kightly, who made over 100 appearances for Wolves, has transferred to Stoke for £2m. Kightly has already found the net once in Stoke’s first two games and he could be a key player in The Potter’s season.

Wolves striker Steven Fletcher has moved to Sunderland to help the Black Cats maintain their good Premier League position. Fletcher scored 22 in goals in his 61 appearances for Wolves, a not unimpressive strike rate of one goal every three matches. That’s a lot of football nets hit, but it wasn’t enough to save Wolves.

Sunderland have also bolstered their ranks with midfielder Adam Johnson. The ex-Manchester City player was told by his boss Roberto Mancini that there will not be many opportunities for first team football this season. He will do better at Sunderland where he is much more likely to get a first team football kit, which will in turn help him to develop his international career.

Manchester City have done more of a purge of players rather than a spending spree. They’ve ben frugal in this window but then they won the Premier League last year, so why change a winning team? The only transfer in is Jack Rodwell from Everton for £12m, with City transferring eight players out, including Adebayor to Tottenham for £5m.

Manchester United will be suffering from their stunning loss to Everton in their opening game, but have boosted their chances of winning the title back by signing Robin Van Persie for £24m and Shinji Kagawa from Dortmund for £17m.

There have been scores of transfers made in the summer window, and now it’s time for them to prove their worth on the pitch by setting the Premier League on fire.
