The end of the summer transfer period is at midnight on 31st August, and the beginnings of the predictable scramble for signings is evident.
Teams have played the first game in their new football kit, and now managers will have a rough idea of where gaps have appeared in their squad. Sometimes it’s not enough to alter the way players use football training equipment and it is necessary to purchase a player to do the job your team is lacking.
Manchester City are understood to be making moves towards Swansea’s Scott Sinclair, although what gap he could possibly fill in a team as strong as City’s is debatable. Whatever the reason, he has not signed a new contract with the Swans and there are rumours abound that City have already made a bid.
Manchester City have also sold Emmanuel Adebayor to Spurs for £5, after a pleasing loan spell last season which saw him score 17 football goals in his 37 games in London.
More exciting transfer news is the interest in City’s midfielder Adam Johnson. He only made 10 appearances in City’s football kits last season and the England international is far too big a talent to be wasted on the bench at the Emirates.
It is thought that Liverpool, Spurs and Sunderland are interested in signing him, although the Black Cats are the only team to formally submit a bid.
Manchester United have not been quiet either, signing Vitesse Arnhem’s left back Alexander Buttner for an undisclosed fee. This could be to create some height in the squad, with Buttner standing at almost six foot tall, as Manchester United were so easily quashed by Everton on Monday by long balls that they simply couldn’t reach.
There’s still ten days yet though and in terms of transfer windows, that might as well be 1o years.
